Peter Hinrichs – President
The idea for dig in it! Inc. transformed out of a need I saw to get people to understand the value of good design, responsible horticulture and well built landscapes as they relate to quality of life, home, community and regional context.
My philosophy has evolved out of my life’s experiences of being exposed to many aspects of culture and the environment, from exploring the forests of northern Wisconsin to the formal gardens of my childhood home. I found my passion for plants through my mother and my excitement for exploring from my father, as our family took many trips to urban and rural areas, museums and botanical gardens. The values I learned from these experiences have defined my work and life.
I first started working in the field at the age of 10 pulling weeds and tending perennial gardens for family friends which lead to the responsibility of a summer job at the age of 12 maintaining the grounds of an apartment complex.
These experiences culminated at the age of 20 when I gained an apprenticeship with a landscape design and build company in New Hampshire. My life came full circle and I returned to the University of Massachusetts in Amherst to earn my bachelors degree in landscape architecture. This degree has lead to a diverse and rewarding career which has encompassed horticulture, landscape architecture and the education of people of all backgrounds and ages through these disciplines.
